Come celebrate with the Virginia Discovery Museum! Have a party at the Museum for a birthday, holiday, school break, or just for fun! Parties for children ages 3 through 10 are available to all museum members.
Your two-hour party will include:
- the use of our private party room
- a museum staff party leader
- helium balloons for each child
- time to explore the Museum
- your choice of a group craft or party theme
Cake and beverage may be purchased for an additional fee.
Available Party Crafts
Stick Puppets (Ages 3-5): cat, dog, bird, airplane
Bag Puppets (Ages 5+): cat, dog, rabbit, dinosaur, clown
Party Masks (Ages 3+): Mardi Gras, dragon, cat
Musical Instruments: drum (ages 3+), rain stick (ages 7+), rattle (3+)
Party Hats (ages 3+): Cone or crown shapes
Available Party Themes
Tea Party: A proper “tea” and etiquette gathering.
Lace and Feathers (ages 3+)
Party guests make lovely fans and play a waltz freeze game.
Dolls and Pearls (ages 5+)
Guests create Victorian paper dolls and play Pass the Ring.
Pirate Party: Dress, talk, and walk like a pirate.
Plundering Parrots (ages 3+)
Children create a pirate hat and parrot. See who wins the Arrghh contest and Peg Leg Race!
Treasure Adventure (ages 5+)
Children make a pirate hat and telescope and then seek out hidden treasure in the museum with the help of their grown- up pirates.
Hocus Pocus Party: Be transformed at this magical gathering.
Wizards and Wands (Ages 5+)
Children make their very own wizard hat and wand and then learn
a bit of magic.
The total cost for birthday parties is $125 for up to 10 children and $8 for each additional child. A $50 deposit is required at the time of registration.
Invitations are $5 for a pack of 10 and 40 cents for each additional invitation. For $4.00 each, you may purchase goody bags which include a child’s pass to the museum and your choice of three of the following: a glow-in-the-dark high bounce ball, a mini-note pad with crayons, five stickers, a pinwheel, and a 10 inch loop straw.
Six
weeks advance reservations are recommended to reserve your party date.
