JOB DESCRIPTION - Exhibits Internship

• Works closely with the Exhibit Coordinator to design and create changing back gallery exhibitions.  The back gallery changes approximately every four months with topics.

• Assists with painting murals, sculpting, and building fun environments suitable for children.

• Assists with maintaining current exhibits and updating them as needed.

• Assists with research for changing exhibitions.  Upcoming exhibition topics include light and optics and going green.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Applicant must be creative.  Familiarity with tools preferred.  Skills in art and craft techniques preferred.

• Commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission of the Virginia Discovery Museum.

• Competency in multitasking and time management.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Positive attitude and lots of energy.

Job Type:  Unpaid Internship 10-20 hours per week.

The Museum has 6 full-time and 4

part-time staff members, limited financial resources, over 140 volunteers, and a dedicated Board of Directors.

The Museum is open to the public six days a week. Visitation for FY 2009 was 59,395.

The success of the Museum depends on the ability of staff to support one another, to provide rewarding opportunities to volunteers, and to solicit the partnership of businesses, educational institutions, and community resources.
