The Virginia Discovery Museum has a job opening for a full-time Gallery Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION - Gallery Manager

The Gallery Manager (GM) assures that all visitors feel safe and welcome in a setting that encourages exploration, creativity and hands-on learning.
The GM recruits, hires, trains and supervises Gallery staff and trains, supervises and supports volunteers. The GM is the staff liaison and supervisor for the UVA Internship program.
The GM is an important member of the Education Staff with whom he/she meets on a regular basis to address issues regarding exhibits, programs, the visitor experience, safety and policies.
The GM prepares the Museum (on a daily basis) for visitors, which includes opening and closing the register, cleaning, stocking and maintaining exhibits, maintenance and purchase of supplies. The GM works alternate weekends and around the holidays.
The GM oversees drop-in programs, Birthday Parties, and Field Trips, maintains related statistics, monitors related expenditures, purchases necessary supplies, and manages calendar and scheduling. The GM also arranges long term planning and review to continually enhance programs, parties and trips by evaluating revenue possibilities, updating procedures and developing fresh programming.

The GM updates and implements operational procedures, including but not limited to, evacuation, security, safety, cleaning and building maintenance.
The GM programs and implements weekly programs that are a good fit for his/her interests and expertise.

Excellent organizational and personnel management skills
Outgoing personality and calm demeanor
Dedication to the Museum’s educational mission
Experience with pre-school and elementary age children.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Ability to relate with comfort and enthusiasm to diverse audiences.
Computer literacy (Office 2000).
