This Land Was Their Land

Ages 4-7, June 14th -17th

Come learn about the original North Americans in a fun and respectful way.  Enjoy hands-on items and activities from our Pueblo Collection and learn about Native American constellations in STARLAB, our portable planetarium. Make arts and crafts inspired by the Pueblos, Monacans, Inuit and others!

Friendships and Fantasies

Ages 4-7, June 21st – June 24th

Explore the incredible worlds created by two of the most imaginative children’s authors today, Neil Gaiman and Tony DiTerlizzi.  We’ll toss up our ABCs and create fantastic creatures to match our letters.  Then children will have a blast learning all the things they can do with Crazy Hair and how to fend off tricky home invaders.  We’ll explore these books and more through games, music and crafts.

Going Green!

Ages 4-7, June 28th - July 1st

In honor of our Back Gallery Exhibit, It’s Easy to Be Green! Make art out of recycled materials, play games that teach green principles and visit local organizations that are helping Charlottesville to honor our planet Earth.  Also, learn about how insects contribute to the survival of our planet, including the Museum’s very own bees!

To Infinity and Beyond!

Ages 4-7, July 12th - 15th

Come aboard our spaceship and discover the stars in this exciting summer camp experience!  We’ll start our trip learning about our own solar system and then fly off to discover other types of stars, former stars, and even galaxies.  We’ll practice storytelling and drawing when we create our own constellations, and we’ll have a big finish in STARLAB, the museum’s portable planetarium!

Our Best Friends

Ages 4-7, July 19th - 22nd

Come learn about your favorite furry, feathered and scaly friends! Enjoy visits from a vet and special animal guests.  Learn about different kinds of pets and how to take care of them.  Enjoy games, arts, crafts and science activities all designed to increase understanding and enjoyment of the animals who share our homes.

Manga Madness!

Ages 4-7, July 26th - 29th

Look into the lives of Japanese kids today while you discover modern Japanese art and culture in this camp.  Start by learning some simple phrases and then move on to an exploration of Japanese foods.  Try your hand at Japanese art forms, including Manga, and play games kids love.  We’ll get a full view of modern life in Japan as well as a look into Japan’s most popular art forms.

Colorful Constructions

Ages 4-7, August 9th - 12th

Learn how many modern artists in the 1900s used colors and shapes to create fine art. Create your own color wheel and find out the difference between tints and shades. Use tangram puzzles to see how pictures can be constructed out of basic shapes. We will make collages and paintings based on the work of popular artists like Picasso and Matisse.
