External Education Manager

Full-Time. 40 Hours/Week, Mon-Fri, 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.*

The Virginia Discovery Museum External Education Manager (EEM) oversees all aspects of externally facing programming and events at the Museum. The EEM works to ensure that VDM’s mission is represented in its programs, events, and exhibits. The ideal candidate must be outgoing and enthusiastic and enjoy working with children and families.

*Occasional Weekend Hours to Attend Community Events or Support the Museum

Responsibilities

  • Manages VDM’s Discovery Workshops program.
  • Manages VDM’s Makers series.
  • Oversees and coordinates VDM’s relationships with external program providers.
  • Manages VDM’s Summer Camps in conjunction with VDM’s Internal Education Manager and best-in-class external providers.
  • Plans and manages Kid*Vention, VDM’s annual community science festival.
  • Works with exhibits staff to develop educational, interactive exhibits.
  • Writes information regarding education for the Museum website and for other publications.
  • Coordinates VDM’s Meet Me on Main Street program.
  • Assists with gallery opening, closing, and maintenance.
  • Assists with grant writing as it pertains to programs and educational goals.
  • Helps with front desk staffing as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong educational background (education degree preferred)
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working in education, either in a classroom setting or in program management.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment

Internal Education Manager

Full-Time. 40 Hours/Week, Tue-Sat, 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.*

The Virginia Discovery Museum Internal Education Manager (IEM) oversees all aspects of internally facing programming and events at the Museum. The IEM works to ensure that VDM’s mission is represented in its programs, events, and exhibits. The ideal candidate must be outgoing and enthusiastic and enjoy working with children and families.

*Sunday Hours as Needed

Responsibilities

  • Plans and executes VDM’s Drop-In programs.
  • Plans and executes 4-5 weeks of Summer Camps in conjunction with VDM’s External Education Manager.
  • Schedules, plans, and executes VDM’s school-year camps, including Day-Off and Spring Break camps.
  • Plans and manages VDM’s popular Date Night Drop-Off program.
  • Schedules and runs VDM’s Birthday Parties in conjunction with VDM’s Outreach Education Manager.
  • Schedules, plans, and manages VDM’s holiday programs.
  • Promotes VDM’s Programs on radio, television, and social media.
  • Writes information regarding education for the Museum website and for other publications.
  • Works with exhibits staff to develop educational, interactive exhibits.
  • Assists in gallery opening, closing, and maintenance.
  • Assists with grant writing as it pertains to programs and educational goals.
  • Helps with front desk staffing as needed.
