The Virginia Discovery Museum has become a sought-after event rental space on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. SUNDAY & EVENING RENTALS

Enjoy the entire Museum to yourselves with our Sunday and evening event rentals! We’re closed to the public, so you choose your party time.

Museum Base Rental: $300

*Subject to staff availability. The rental period should include set-up and clean-up times for your event. Additional time spent at the Museum, either before or after the event, will be subject to a $150 charge for each 1 hour block of time. 


All events must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. 

A $50 deposit is required to reserve a date; this deposit is refundable until two weeks before the party. Reservations made less than two weeks before the requested date are subject to a $35 late fee.

Scheduling & Arrival

How far in advance can I schedule my event?
You may schedule your event as far in advance as you would like, but all events must be scheduled — and the reservation deposit paid — at least two weeks before the requested date. 

How do I reserve a event date?
If you have a date in mind, call Lindsay Jones at (434) 977-1025, ext. 102 or email operationsdirector@vadm.org. Then, after our staff has helped you settle on a party date and time, you can either submit your $50 reservation deposit via the online deposit link we email to you or pay it in person at the Museum. It's as easy as that!

What happens if I have to cancel the event? Is my deposit refundable?
The $50 deposit is refundable for parties canceled two or more weeks before the reserved date. Our staff is also happy to help you reschedule for an alternate available time.

The event date I'd like to reserve is less than two weeks away; can I still schedule a event?
As long as the date and time you are requesting is available, absolutely! However, a $35 late fee will be applied to any parties scheduled less than two weeks before the requested date.

Can caterers come early to drop off supplies? Is there a place to unload?
Yes, all supplies can be dropped off before the event. We have a full-size kitchen that can be used. Just keep in mind that the museum is open to the public Monday-Saturday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. We have a small loading zone outside the Museum’s rear exit in the hallway. We’d be happy to give you directions to this area when we confirm your event date.
